Highway to the enlightened zone

The 1986 movie Top Gun inspired more than the trend of aviator sunglasses and leather jackets. It also helped many individuals to reach their life dreams thanks to its theme song Highway to the Danger Zone.

The Kenny Loggins tune features lyrics that are meant to motivate individuals to push their personal limits in an effort to achieve success and fulfillment.

"You'll never say hello to you / Until you get it on the red line overload / You'll never know what you can do / Until you get it up as high as you can go," Loggins sang.

Many individuals do not pursue their life dreams because of what they perceive to be road blocks. However, many times, these obstacles are minor and can be overcome with a little bit of motivation and hard work.

Ilchi Lee believes that every individual has the brain potential to become great, and that all they need to do is push themselves to see how high they can go. Obstacles will always come and go, but potential is permanent and has no limits.

Karate Kid overflows with inspiration

In 1984, the world was introduced to the inspirational wonder that is the original Karate Kid movie.

The story centers around a young man named Daniel, who feels out of place in his new town. He soon finds his niche in the martial art of karate and a mentor in an old man named Mr. Miyagi.

Daniel does not take to the sport right away, but with hard work and dedication, he improves his skills and goes on to compete against some of his most talented peers.

The movie is a classic story about an underdog who overcomes personal obstacles, made even more inspiring by its soundtrack, which includes You're the Best by Joe Esposito.

"Try your best to win them all / And one day time will tell / When you’re the one that’s standing there / You’ll reach the final bell!" Esposito sang.

Ilchi Lee believes that anything is possible when individuals take strides toward betterment and awakening by using their internal motivation and brain power. Such a path is the only way to reach fulfillment and success.

Daft Punk inspires individuals to be better, faster, stronger

In 2001, the French dance duo Daft Punk released their hit single Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger to the delight of young music enthusiasts around the world. It quickly because a staple in nightclubs and went on to be remade and sampled by rap artist Kanye West.

While it is sure to get any party going, it is also an inspirational song, especially for those looking for some tunes to listen to while hitting the gym.

"Work it harder, make it better / Do it faster, makes us stronger / More than ever, hour after hour / Work is never over," sings the duo.

The song is a testament to the power of hard work and determination. Things do not get better for those who sit around and wish they would, and people need to take personal responsibility in their lives to become better, faster and stronger.

This is the kind of dedication that Ilchi Lee believes can help individual achieve a fulfilled existence. Moreover, when other individuals see such displays of motivation, they too may start to seek out success.

Follow skill set to find career path

When choosing a career path, one should take into account his or her skill set and understand one's strengths in order to find the job that fits the best.

While there are more things taken into consideration when determining one's life purpose, a career is undoubtedly an integral component in personal growth, so making sure one is matched properly with his or her work is very important.

According to a recent article on the website for television station WWLP, while thinking about certain activities one loves to do can be beneficial, the more likely career match will involve the abilities that a person has and which tasks they can perform at the highest level. One's brain education can have a significant impact on the work he or she does, and it is critical to take this into account.

Although it can be difficult to choose one's type of job in the struggling economy, it can be beneficial in the long run to start off in a suitable position as one can attempt to parlay the job into a better role with the company further down the line.

Still, with the recent ADP jobs report indicating that the private sector only added 38,000 jobs in May, many people may want to take what they can get while still looking for better options for the future.

Queen believes in the power of friendship

In 1976, the rock band Queen graced radio stations with their hit single You're My Best Friend. It quickly became a success because of its positive and inspirational lyrics about a true friendship.

The song is a touching declaration about a love between two friends – or lovers, depending on how it's interpreted – who know they'll be companions for life.

"I've been with you such a long time / You're my sunshine / And I want you to know / That my feelings are true / I really love you / You're my best friend," sang rock legend Freddie Mercury.

You're My Best Friend is a reminder of what a true confidant should be: uplifting, inspiring, motivating and caring. Even the happy melody of the song makes the listener feel as though they are floating on clouds with not a care in the world.

Ilchi Lee believes that a best friend should help an individual on their journey toward awakening and fulfillment. This friend should not be taken for granted, for they are special beings put on this Earth to provide guidance and support.

Christina Aguilera gives confidence, hope in her song Beautiful

In 2006, the world of pop music was shaken to its core by the powerful, inspirational song that was Beautiful by Christina Aguilera.

Until then, the scene had been dominated by relatively light, frothy and inconsequential tunes. But then came Aguilera, who let everyone know just how beautiful they were.

"You are beautiful, no matter what they say / Words can't bring you down / You are beautiful in every single way / Yes words can't bring you down / So don't you bring me down today," Aguilera sang.

Her music video featured people of all shapes, sizes, colors and genders. The song helped people to realize that beauty is not limited to the conventional, since it more often lies within a person where it cannot be seen on the surface.

Ilchi Lee believes that every person has the human potential to be as beautiful and as loving as they want to be. All it takes is a little bit of self-reflection, meditation and perhaps a nudge from an inspirational song.

David Bowie sings Changes for the new generation

British rock singer David Bowie has made a significant mark on pop culture, but perhaps the his most vibrant accomplishment is the 1972 classic song Changes.

The song is about a person at a dead end who is just realizing that they have been squandering their time on Earth. Each time that person thinks they have achieved what they wanted, they were left unfulfilled, so they decided to make some changes.

"So I turned myself to face me / But I've never caught a glimpse / Of how the others must see the faker / I'm much too fast to take that test," Bowie sang.

The young person remains fascinated by the wonders of life and soon accepts the changes that occur as being necessary.

Ilchi Lee believes that success is a matter of personal responsibility. It can be easy to get caught up or distracted by the changes that occur in life, but if a person keeps their eye on the end goal and their heart in the right place, they will learn to adapt and will ultimately achieve success.

Cool Runnings is a true story of motivation

Everyone laughed when a ragtag team of men from Jamaica tried to enter the Olympics as a bobsled team. But it was they who had the last laugh at the Calgary games as they sailed into victory.

While the team did not end up winning a medal, they earned respect as bobsled contenders and their story was immortalized in the 1993 film Cool Runnings.

Some members of the team were runners, others were pushcart racers, but none of them had experience on ice. After all, they were from balmy Jamaica. However, they trained hard and took personal responsibility to work toward their goal of making it to the Olympics.

They were off to a bumpy start, but soon impressed crowds with their speed and precision. At the end of the games, as they neared the finish line, an accident occurred and their sled flipped over. The audience was silenced with shock and fear, but the men pulled themselves up, lifted the sled over their heads and walked proudly toward the finish line.

Ilchi Lee believes that this kind of motivation is what it takes for an individual to live a fulfilled existence.

Celine Dion sings of eternal love

The 1997 film Titanic gave the world more than a story about love that can survive death and time. It also brought into light the wonder that is Celine Dion's My Heart Will Go On.

Dion's song is about a woman who has lost her lover but still feels the power of their love as she lives on in the wake of his absence.

"Near, far, wherever you are / I believe that the heart does go on / Once more you open the door / And you're here in my heart / And my heart will go on," Dion sang.

This song has remained a classic for both its inspirational lyrics and Dion's impressive vocal range. The kind of love that the Canadian singer tells of is also known as Tau, an ever-lasting, all-encompassing kind of positivity that has the power to lead to a more peaceful mankind.

Author and flutist Ilchi Lee believes that Tau is one of the most powerful forces on the planet and that all individuals should strive toward achieving it.

Foreigner inspires young musicians to follow life dreams

The 1980s smash hit Jukebox Hero by Foreigner likely inspired many young guitar players of the time to let go of the things holding them back, pick up a guitar and rock on.

The song begins by painting a picture of a man who has been left out in the rain after the defeat of failing to score a ticket to see his favorite band. However, the next day, that individual saw the light of inspiration and picked up an old six string.

"Didn't know how to play it, but he knew for sure / That one guitar, felt good in his hands, didn't take long, to understand / Just one guitar, slung way down low / Was a one way ticket, only one way to go / So he started rocking, ain't never gonna stop," sang the musical genius Lou Gramm.

Playing the guitar made the young man feel alive and as though there is purpose in his life. He took the personal responsibility to pursue his dream and fulfillment.

Ilchi Lee believes that this is what it takes to be successful in life. If all individuals lived like the young man in Foreigner's Jukebox Hero, then the world might be a better place.
